Combination Breeding and Marker-Assisted Selection to Develop Late Blight Resistant Potato Cultivars

چکیده

(1) Background: Although resistance to pathogens and pests has been researched in many potato cultivars breeding lines with DNA markers, there is scarce evidence as the efficiency of marker-assisted selection (MAS) for these traits when applied at early stages breeding. A goal this study was estimate potential affordable markers track genes that are effective against pathogen Phytophthora infestans (Rpi genes), a practical tool on progeny 68 clones derived from cross between cultivar Sudarynya hybrid 13/11-09. (2) Methods: population studied four years elucidate distribution late blight (LB) other agronomical desirable or simple phenotype such tuber flower pigmentation, yield capacity structure. LB phenotypically evaluated following natural artificial infection presence/absence nine Rpi assessed 11 sequence-characterized amplified region (SCAR) markers. To validate analysis, profile 13/11-09 parent established using diagnostic gene enrichment sequencing (dRenSeq) gold standard. (3) Results: program, screening segregation F1 offspring, MAS can halve workload selected SCAR provide useful tools.

Marker-Assisted Selection for the Broad-Spectrum Potato Late Blight Resistance Conferred by Gene RB Derived from a Wild Potato Species

Potato (Solanum tuberosumL.) late blight, caused byPhytophthora infestans (Mont.) de Bary, is one of the most damaging diseases in any crop. Deployment of resistant varieties is the most effective way to control this disease. However, breeding for late blight resistance has been a challenge because the race-specific resistance genes introgressed from wild potato S. demissum Lindl. have been sho...

Potato cultivars from the mexican national program: sources and durability of resistance against late blight.

ABSTRACT The Mexican National Potato Program has produced several cultivars with high levels of field resistance. We evaluated the durability of resistance to potato late blight of a selection of 12 such cultivars using data from 1960 to the present. Data were extracted from the field notebooks located in the archives of the Mexican National Potato Program in the John S. Niederhauser Library in...

SNP Marker Assisted Selection for Identification of Fusarium Resistant Melon Plants

Melon is an important crop cultivated in moderate climate regions of the world. One of the most important diseases of this plant is vascular wilt caused by Fusarium oxysporum f.sp. melonis (Fom). Infection of farm by this pathogen can result in huge damage around the world. Development of resistant varieties is the most effective method for disease control. Four races of 0, 1, 2 and 1,2 have be...

Direct and Marker-Assisted Selection for Resistance to Common Bacterial Blight in Common Bean

Common bacterial blight (CBB) caused by Xanthomonas campestris pv. phaseoli and X. campestris pv. phaseoli var. fuscans is a seed-borne disease that can signifi cantly reduce yield and seed quality of common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.). Disease resistance is the most effective management strategy, but most common bean cultivars have no CBB resistance. Marker-assisted selection (MAS) shows prom...

Dna Marker Assisted Breeding to Develop Alfalfa Varieties for a Water-challenged Future

Large portions of the Great Plains and the western U.S. are regularly plagued by drought and diminishing water resources for irrigation. Alfalfa cultivars adapted to these regions, and that can remain productive under reduced irrigation allotments, are clearly needed. This study evaluated the potential of using DNA marker assisted selection (MAS) technology to improve alfalfa forage productivit...
